It all started with a Christmas quilt. Instagram sucked me in and I had to search and find the Christmas panel to make a Christmas throw of my own. Once I found myself on Fat Quarter Shop’s website, the panel page sucked me in deeper. I ordered not one but three quilt panels. This is their story.
Quilt panel the first. The original. The reason this all started. I ordered the panel and cuddle minky to go on the back. And let me tell you. The cuddle minky on the back makes it the heaviest, comfiest, warmest couch throw. Dave felt it and immediately wanted his own.
Which was a good thing because quilt panel number two was purchased for him. Dave has a love for all things 80s and nostalgic including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of his childhood. He instructed me on how to grow the panel into throw-quilt size; the actual panel is as big as the green border. The color choices are his (and certainly *cough* not the route I would have went but it’s his quilt). His is backed in a black minky and equally as cuddly as my Christmas throw.
Quilt panel number three is for our nephew who is obsessed with Super Mario. It was his birthday this past week and, as this family has more toys than they know what to do with, we tend to go the homemade or experience route when it comes to gifts. He recently got a Super Mario bed and thus, a Super Mario quilt must be next. (The panel goes to the blue border. I added the polka dots – of course – and gray to make it twin bed-ish size.) It was also a first for me – a machine-stitched binding. While I usually love to sit on the couch and hand sew the binding, time was of the essence and, after the it was complete, I really like how it looks.

Happy New Year! The quilts are really nice. Dave’s color choices are cool. They match the turtles masks. How are the boys? Sally’s new puppy sure is a cutie and full of puppy pep. Likes to chew on everything right now and I have a mark to prove it. lol. He was officially adopted by them if I have not told you before. All is well with both of us. Christmas was peaceful, nice and of course, different. New Years was the same. Hope work is going well for both of you. Stay safe and we will talk again. Marilyn

You are a master at his. You got it. I love the colors that Dave picked for his quilt to snuggle with. he did great. Really made it liven up. Glad you are keeping busy. I di the two senior boy quilts for church during Christmas and New Years. Just didn’t feel like doing anything else. Cole, grandson was one of the boys, so I will give him a choice of the two I finished and then do a T-Shirt quilt for the back, He has some great t-shirts with all the winnings for the FB team. Now I am going to make a similar bride dress for a doll I received in 6th grade. Her dress is completely falling apart after Hum about 61 years, She is going to get a new dress from left over fabric from my wedding gown 52 years ago, I can’t wait to start. I will post a before with the old dress and an after. Should be fun. This doll almost didn’t make the cut when moving. She stood in the front room for weeks all by herself as no one would store her for me. My daughters said “just get rid of it”. No way. Finally I talked my sister into taking it and put in in her extra bedroom with my Hibiscus tree. Glad she is still with me and will be so much fun to complete this long awaiting project. Good job Lindsay! my ‘new year’s resolution’ is to get good at binding. that means I have to finish stuff! I do like the colors Dave chose for his quilt.
I work at Hormel R&D so I knew Dave. I’m in Chemistry in the ‘new’ lab building, we’ve been here for 4 years already.
