Camping.

15 Jun

Since I last posted, we spent some time outside of Atlanta at Dave’s brother’s home. We (okay, mostly Dave) put in hours painting the exterior trim on our house (among other house projects). I’ve been spending hours in the garden, with hours to go. I’ve been supply preaching a couple times, with a couple more Sundays on the calendar. But in between all of that, we took the camper out this past weekend for the first time this season. Destination: Kettle Moraine State Park – Mauthe Lake campground.

It was everything a camping weekend should be. (Besides delayed a night due to severe weather.)

We napped and slept with the windows open at night. I read a book. (My work book club is reading The Wedding People by Alison Espach – I needed to be half done with the book by today. The whole book was finished over the weekend. Five stars. Highly recommend.)

We hiked. We walked the park and the campground. The Ice Age Trail also runs through the park; Dave had already hiked this section and was excited to share a bit of this memory.

We explored. We found a cute lunch stop in Random Lake on the way to The Cedar Valley Cheese Factory Store. The store was 20 minutes away from our campsite and from prior trips to this neck of the woods, we know it’s a favorite stop. They sell a shredded cheese mix of all the ends of whatever they’re packaging as they switch from one cheese to another; we love it. We stocked up on the shredded mix and a couple other goodies, including “cowpacchino milk” from a local dairy in a glass bottle. The woman at the register asked if I had any bottles to return; nope. (And I probably will never return this one.)

BONUS: I only found ONE TICK the whole time. I was worried we’d be covered in them. (I’ve found two inside our house so far this year. Two and counting. I hate those buggers.)

Next up: a July trip to Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay. We booked it to hopefully (fingers crossed) correspond with Door County cherry season. I’ll keep you posted.
